Study visit to the National Anti-Scam Centre in Malaysia
  1. From September 21 to 25, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with ASEANAPOL (ASEAN Chiefs of Police), implemented a project to support anti-scam efforts in ASEAN countries.
  2. The purpose of this project was to support the efforts of ASEAN countries to establish national anti-scam centers. Practitioners from law enforcement agencies across ASEAN, together with representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat, INTERPOL, the ASEANAPOL Secretariat, and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), participated in study visits to national anti-scam centers already established in Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore. Representatives from Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Police Agency also accompanied them.
  3. Scam centers in Southeast Asia pose a threat to regional and international peace and stability, and have become a serious challenge not only for Japan but for the entire international community. In light of this, to contribute to the international community's efforts to combat scams, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan has contributed a total of approximately 7 million dollars this year to multiple online scam countermeasures projects implemented by UNODC and INTERPOL, and this support through the Study Visit project was implemented as part of these efforts.
