Japan's Contribution to UN Peacekeeping Operations (PKO)

  1. The Global Program for Human Resource Development for Peacebuilding and Development (Global Peacebuilders Program) is established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA) in order to strengthen the civilian capacity of Japan and other countries in the field of peacebuilding and development. MOFA has commissioned the Hiroshima Peacebuilders Center (HPC) to implement the program. Japan places emphasis on contributing to the peace and stability of the international community under the policy of “Proactive Contribution to Peace” based on the principle of international cooperation.
  2. Applications are now open for 15 participants for the Mid-Career Course of the JFY 2017 Global Peacebuilders Program. The application guidelines and materials can be found on the HPC websiteOpen a New Window. The Course is open to those from all nationalities with 7+ years of experience in fields related to peacebuilding and development. The Global Peacebuilders Program welcomes applicants from the private and non-profit sectors, in addition to international organizations.   3. The Course will be conducted in Tokyo (conducted in English) from September 10, 2017 to September 16, 2017. A preparatory seminar providing an overview of the UN system and the roles it plays in peacebuilding and development may be held at the request of participants on September 9, 2017. The seminar is intended for those without previous work experience in the UN system; however, participation in the seminar is not a requirement.
