Statement by Special Advisor to the Japanese Prime Minister on Women’s Empowerment MORI Masako
at UN Women/UNESCAP’s Asia-Pacific Regional Commemoration of International Women’s Day 2022

On March 8, Ms. MORI Masako, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan on Women’s Empowerment, delivered a statement on behalf of the Government of Japan at the Asia-Pacific Regional Commemoration of International Women’s Day 2022 hosted by UN Women and UNESCAP (hybrid format). - Special Advisor MORI underlined the importance of disaster preparedness and adaptation measures with an increase of natural disasters by climate change and women’s participation at all levels of the decision-making process regarding climate change. She also introduced Japanese supports to the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) to provide a training programme on women’s leadership in tsunami-based disaster risk reduction and UNESCAP for disaster risk reduction policy planning.
- Furthermore, the Special Advisor MORI emphasized the significance of cooperating with other countries based on the concept of human security.
