Japan-Spain Summit Telephone Talk
On June 18, commencing at around 7:20 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. ABE Shinzo, Prime Minister of Japan, held a summit telephone talk with H.E. Mr. Pedro Sánchez Pérez-Castejón, President of the Government of Spain. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
1. At the outset, Prime Minister Abe expand his condolences for those in Spain who fell victim to novel corona disease (COVID-19) while expressing his respect for the efforts by the Spanish government to improve the situation in response to COVID-19. President Sánchez expressed his gratitude for Prime Minister Abe’s words and explained the initiatives to ease current restrictions in Spain and the EU.
2. Prime Minister Abe explained Japan’s measures against the spread of COVID-19. In response, President Sánchez valued Japan’s measures against the spread of COVID-19.
3. Both leaders shared the views to continue coordinate and cooperate concerning measures against COVID-19, to further deepen the strategic partnership between both countries, and to further cooperate to develop bilateral relations, including further strengthening the economic relations between both countries and expanding the cooperation to realize a “free and open Indo-Pacific” and people-to-people exchange when the bilateral exchanges become ready to resume.
