Japan-Malta Relations
Courtesy Call on Chief Cabinet Secretary HAYASHI Yoshimasa by Dr. Ian Borg, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism of the Republic of Malta

On July 16, commencing at 04:05 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Chief Cabinet Secretary, received a courtesy call from Hon. Dr. Ian Borg, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism of the Republic of Malta, during his visit to Japan. The overview is as follows.
- At the outset, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi stated that he looks forward to further development of Japan-Malta relations in the economic and cultural fields through the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi also mentioned that this year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Malta, and expressed his hope that the relationship between the two countries will further develop.
- Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi also expressed his gratitude for the close cooperation with Malta as non-permanent members of the Security Council from 2023 until the end of last year, and the two sides concurred to continue to cooperate to maintain and strengthen the international order based on the rule of law.
- The two sides concurred to exchange views and cooperate on the situation in East Asia, including the abduction issue and the situation in North Korea, such as its nuclear weapons and missiles.
