Japan-Latvia Relations

  1. On June 14, following the presidential election of the Republic of Latvia which was held on May 31, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, sent a congratulatory letter to H.E. Mr. Edgars Rinkēvičs, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lativa, who becomes the President-elect of the country.
  2. In the letter, Prime Minister KISHIDA extended his congratulations to Minister Rinkēvičs, and conveyed his willingness to work closely with the President-elect to further promote the concrete development of a wide range of cooperation bilaterally as well as in the international fora. He also expressed his intention to further deepen cooperation with Latvia for maintaining and strengthening the free and open international order based on the rule of law, including the realization of a "Free and Open Indo-Pacific."
  3. On the same day, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, also sent a congratulatory letter to H.E. Mr. Edgars Rinkēvičs, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lativa.
  4. In the letter, Minister Hayashi congratulated Minister Rinkēvičs, and, by referring to the Japan-Latvia Foreign Ministers' meeting in Stockholm last month, expressed his wish to continue working closely with Latvia, a partner that shares fundamental values, for strengthen bilateral relations, as well as dealing with common challenges of the international community.
