Japan-Latvia Relations

On 25 September, following the appointment of H.E. Ms. Evika Siliņa, Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, sent a congratulatory letter to Prime Minister Siliņa.

  1. In the letter, Prime Minister Kishida congratulated Prime Minister Siliņa on her appointment and mentioned his hope to closely collaborate with Prime Minister Siliņa to contribute to maintaining and strengthening the free and open international order based on the rule of law, including response to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, touching upon the importance of strengthening the collaboration toward realizing a "free and open Indo-Pacific" and the cooperation through the EU, NATO and other fora.
  2. Prime Minister Kishida also welcomed that the favourable bilateral relations continued in a wide range of areas, and expressed his willingness to closely cooperate with Prime Minister Siliņa toward further strengthening the bilateral relations, while mentioning the Working Holliday Agreement which entered into force in August.
