Japan-Ireland Relations

On December 20, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Foreign Minister of Japan, sent a congratulatory letter to H.E. Mr. Micheál Martin, T.D., Tánaiste (Deputy Prime Minister of Ireland) and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Defence, for his appointment.

  1. In the letter, Foreign Minister Hayashi conveyed his intention to work to deepen the bilateral relationship in a range of fields, on the basis of the Joint Statement between Japan and Ireland, issued upon Mr. Martin’s visit to Japan this July.
  2. Moreover, Foreign Minister Hayashi mentioned that Japan would like to closely collaborate with Ireland in a range of areas, as the G7 presidency and a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council next year, to address various challenges faced by the international community.
