Japan-UK Summit Telephone Meeting

On April 10th, commencing at 4:30 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. ISHIBA Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan, held a summit telephone talk with the The Rt Hon Keir Starmer MP, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The overview of the talk is as follows.
- At the outset, Prime Minister Ishiba, reflecting on the Japan-UK Summit Meeting last November, stated that he was pleased to be able to speak with Prime Minister Starmer again. In response, Prime Minister Starmer stated that he would like to continue developing the positive bilateral relationship between Japan and the UK.
- The two leaders discussed a wide range of economic issues in detail, taking into account the impact of the U.S. tariff measures on global economy and the multilateral free trade system.
- The two leaders also exchanged views on the situations in Europe and the Indo-Pacific including the situation in Ukraine, and concurred that Japan and the UK would continue to cooperate closely on various issues in the international arena.
