The state of Japan-UK Foreign Ministers' Meeting

On May 12, commencing at 6:10 p.m. (local time; 1:10 a.m. on May 13 JST) for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting Germany to attend the G7 Foreign Ministers Meeting, held a meeting with the Rt Hon Elizabeth Truss MP, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, Minister for Women and Equalities of the United Kingdom. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. The two ministers confirmed the importance of close collaboration of international community including G7 in response to Russa’s aggression against Ukraine, in light of the Japan-UK summit meeting on May 5. Minister Hayashi explained the outcome of the recent visit of Prime Minister Kishida to South East Asia and his visit to Central Asia, Mongolia, Fiji and Palau.
  2. The two ministers confirmed that Japan and the UK will deepen their cooperation in a wide range of areas, including security and defence and economic security, toward the realization of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific”.
