(Photo) Japan-UK Foreign Ministers’ Informal Talks

On April 5, commencing at 3:25 p.m. (local time; 10:25 p.m. on April 5 JST) for about 15 minutes, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who was visiting Brussels, the Kingdom of Belgium, to attend the Meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs, held informal talks with the Rt Hon James CLEVERLY MP, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom. The overview is as follows.

  1. The two ministers welcomed the substantial conclusion of the accession negotiations for the UK to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). The ministers had candid discussions on the CPTPP from a strategic perspective, and affirmed to continue to work closely together.
  2. The two ministers exchanged views on regional developments, including the situation in Ukraine and East Asia, and confirmed their continued cooperation in the lead up to the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Karuizawa, Nagano, in April.
