On May 1, commencing at 7:05 p.m. local time (May 2, 2:05 a.m. JST), for approximately 20 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, visited the Japan Cultural Institute in Paris (The Japan Foundation) during her visit to Paris, France.

The Japan Cultural Institute in Paris is operated by the Japan Foundation, an independent administrative agency under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, with support from Japanese and French companies and is a center for the promotion of Japanese culture and cultural exchange between Japan and France.

Minister Kamikawa visited the library of the institute, which has a large collection of Japanese books and manga translated into French. She then stated her intention to collaborate with the Japan Foundation in actively communicating Japan’s attractiveness to the third states through provision of contents referring to the case of the library which Minister Kamikawa recently visited in Madagascar.

Minister Kamikawa also previewed the "Kenzo Tange and Kengo Kuma: Architects of the Tokyo Games" exhibition scheduled to open on May 2 at the institute, which will be sharing the attractions of the Yoyogi National Stadium, an architecture representing the 1964 Olympic legacy, designed by Kenzo Tange and the Japan National Stadium, the venue for the 2021 Olympic Games, designed by Kengo Kuma.

 The Japan Cultural Institute in Paris opened in 1997 as one of the overseas establishments of the Japan Foundation. The institute is jointly operated by the public and private sectors with project support funds and human resources from private support organizations, namely, "Amicale au Japon pour la Maison de la culture du Japon à Paris" and "Association pour la Maison de la culture du Japon à Paris."
