On April 4, commencing at 11:05 a.m. (local time; April 4, 18:05 p.m. JST) for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting Belgium to attend the NATO Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Margus Tsahkna, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Estonia. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Foreign Minister Iwaya stated that he was pleased to hold a meeting with Foreign Minister Tsahkna for the first time. He also stated that Estonia is an important partner for Japan, sharing values and principles, and expressed his intention to further develop bilateral relations. In response, Minister Tsahkna stated that he hopes that Estonia and Japan will work further closely in this difficult international situation.
  2. The two Ministers welcomed the steady progress in bilateral relations, and confirmed that, they would deepen collaboration in a wide range of areas, including ICT, digital and energy in addition to cooperation in the field of security.
  3. The two Ministers confirmed that Japan and Estonia will work closely together on various issues such as the situation in Ukraine.
