June 3, 2016
1. The 150th anniversary year
- (1) 2017 is the 150th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Japan and Denmark, as the "Treaty of Friendship, Commerce and Navigation" between two countries was concluded in 1867. Since the establishment of the diplomatic relations, the interaction between the peoples of Japan and Denmark has been developed in all facets of human relations.
- (2) The 150th anniversary will be an excellent occasion both to review the development of the bilateral friendly relationship and to further strengthen the ties between the two countries.
The Japanese and Danish governments are determined to enhance the bilateral relationship, based on the Strategic Partnership agreed by the Prime Ministers of both countries in March 2014.
2. The official logo

- (1) In order to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the two countries, the official logo was made as shown above. The logo will be provided to the events related to commemoration of the 150th anniversary.
- (2) The official logo's design is the combination of the two countries' national flags - Japan's rising sun and Denmark's white cross: The added lines have the meaning of future meetings and a dynamic interaction between the two countries. Also, the logo reflects traditional Japanese patterns and Danish simplicity and aesthetics.
[Note] The logo was designed in collaboration between a Danish designer, Mr. Henrik Kubel and a Japanese designer, Mr. Katsumi Asaba.
