Japan-Belgium Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

On September 21st, commencing at 17:10. (local time; September 22, 6:10 a.m. JST), Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who was visiting New York, the United States, to attend the General Assembly of the United Nations, held a bilateral meeting with H.E. Ms. Hadja LAHBIB, Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs and Foreign Trade and the Federal Cultural Institutions of the Kingdom of Belgium for approximately 20 minutes. The overview of the talk is as follows.
- At the outset, Minister Hayashi expressed his gratitude at the early realization of the face-to-face meeting following the telephone call on September 1st and Minister Lahbib shared the same feeling with Minister Hayashi and said that she would like to further develop the good bilateral relations. The two Foreign Ministers then concurred to work together to develop the economic, trade and investment relations between the two countries.
- Minister Hayashi pointed out that the security of Europe and the Indo-Pacific is inseparable. The two Foreign Ministers then exchanged views on the regional affairs, including the situation in Ukraine, and Minister Lahbib appreciated Japan's efforts. The two Foreign Ministers concurred that they would continue to work together as like-minded countries on the situation in the East and South China Seas, as well as in dealing with North Korea, including the nuclear and missile issues and the abductions issue.
