Written Message from Prime Minister TAKAICHI for the Sixth Summit of the International Crimea Platform

On September 23, Ms. TAKAICHI Sanae, Prime Minister of Japan, issued a written message for the “Sixth Summit of the International Crimea Platform,” which was hosted by the Government of Ukraine.
The message content is as follows:
- I renew my respect for the day-to-day efforts of the Ukrainian people to defend their country and freedom.
- I would also like to express my respect for President Zelenskyy who is striving courageously and earnestly, whilst encouraging those who are fighting for their own future day and night, for the peace of his homeland.
- The International Crimea Platform Summit serves as an important forum to reaffirm, at a time when the foundations of the international order are being seriously shaken, the necessity of returning to the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations and of maintaining and strengthening the international order based on the rule of law.
- Japan has consistently supported the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, including Crimea, and this position remains unchanged.
- We are deeply concerned about the suffering of those who were displaced from their home, Crimea, as well as those who remain in Crimea. Through today’s meeting, it is important that we reaffirm to the international community, the principle that attempts to unilaterally change the status quo by force must not be tolerated.
- In order to achieve a just and lasting peace, it is now more essential that relevant countries work together in unity and solidarity to support Ukraine, with the involvement of the United States.
- Japan stands with Ukraine, and we also continue to promote support for Ukraine and sanctions against Russia in coordination with the international community and will also continue to work on public-private partnership assistance for recovery and reconstruction in Ukraine.
