The 3rd Joint Committee on Cooperation between Japan and Romania in the Field of Science and Technology

The 3rd Joint Committee on Cooperation between Japan and Romania in the Field of Science and Technology took place on February 17th in Magurele, Ilfov, Romania.
- The Joint Committee was co-chaired by Mr. KAWAMURA Hiroshi, Ambassador for Science and Technology Cooperation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and Mr. Andrei ALEXANDRU, President of the National Authority for Research of Romania. Representatives from both countries' relevant ministries, agencies and other organizations participated either in person or online.
- During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on the recent developments in science, technology and innovation policies of respective countries. They also held active discussions on the present situation and future prospects of cooperation in such fields as ultra-high-power laser research, AI, Geophysics. Following the meeting, a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) in the fields of science and technology was signed between the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan (MEXT) and the National Authority for Research of Romania.The attendees also visited the Extreme Light Infrastructure – Nuclear Physics (ELI-NP) and the Măgurele Center for Atmosphere and Radiation Studies.

Joint Committee on Cooperation between Japan and Romania in the Field of Science and Technology was arrangned based on the Science and Technology Cooperation Arrangement signed in April 1975, which entered into force in the same month. The 2nd Joint Committee on Cooperation between Japan and Romania in the Field of Science and Technology was most recently held in Tokyo in March 2018.
