On November 13, 2025, Dr. KUNIMITSU Ayano, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, attended the Latvian National Day Reception hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia in Japan and delivered her remarks on behalf of the Government of Japan. The overview is as follows:

  1. In her remarks, State Minister KUNIMITSU extended her congratulations on Latvia’s election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2026–2027 term. She stated that Latvia is an important partner for Japan that upholds the rule of law and democracy.
  2. State Minister KUNIMITSU also referred to the visit to Japan by President Rinkēvičs in May this year, during which a Japan-Latvia Summit Meeting was held and the Joint Statement on the Strategic Partnership between Japan and the Republic of Latvia was issued. She further noted that in the economic field, new seeds of cooperation are sprouting across both countries in areas such as startups, energy, and digital technology.
