On March 26, 2026, Ms. ERI Arfiya, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, attended the Lithuanian National Day Reception, which was held in the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan, and delivered her remarks on behalf of the government of Japan. The overview is as follows:

  1. In her remarks, Parliamentary Vice-Minister ERI referred to the historical ties between Japan and Lithuania, including the ‘Visas for Life’ issued by Sugihara Chiune. She noted that this year marks the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 40 years anniversary of the passing of Mr. Sugihara and expressed her expectation that these two anniversaries will serve as an opportunity to further develop the friendly relations between the two countries. Furthermore, She also mentioned that the reception marked the opening of the exhibition M.K. Čiurlionis, the Inner Constellation, and expressed her delight at the holding of M.K. Čiurlionis exhibition in Japan for the first time in 34 years.
  2. In addition, Parliamentary Vice-Minister ERI underlined that Japan and the Republic of Lithuania must play an active role in the international community to maintain and strengthen a free and open international order under the rule of law. She highlighted this in the context of their shared values and historical ties, referring to the recent visits of President Nausėda and Foreign Minister Budrys.
