State Minister Kunimitsu in conversation with Ambassador Surkoš

On May 19, commencing at 16:15 p.m. for approximately 25 minutes, Dr. KUNIMITSU Ayano, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from H.E. Mr. Ivan SURKOŠ, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Slovak Republic to Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows:

  1. At the outset, State Minister Kunimitsu stated that, amid an increasingly challenging international environment, it is of critical importance to uphold and strengthen a free and open international order based on the rule of law. She further expressed Japan’s desire to strengthen coordination and cooperation with Slovakia, a member of both the EU and NATO, through close communication.
  2. In response, Ambassador Surkoš referred to the high-level visits to Japan from Slovakia on the occasion of Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai, and expressed his intention to continue strengthening bilateral relations across a wide range of fields.
  3. Furthermore, the two sides exchanged views on the regional situations, including in the Indo-Pacific.
