On 14 July, Mr. SHIMADA Tomoaki, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from Mr. Alexander Radwan, Member of the German Parliament, for approximately 30 minutes from 9:30 a.m.

  1. At the outset, Parliamentary Vice-Minister SHIMADA extended a heartfelt welcome to Mr. Radwan's visit to Japan and stated that the importance of deepening cooperation with Germany, a premium partner with which Japan shares values and principles, is increasing amid the current international situation. He expressed his desire to work closely with Germany toward the realization of a "Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP)" and to advance concrete cooperation in mutually complementary areas in defense industry cooperation between Japan and Germany.
  2. In response, Mr. Radwan expressed his intention to deepen cooperation in a wide range of fields such as security and defense, as both countries face various challenges.
  3. Both parties also exchanged views on the situation in East Asia such as their policies towards North Korea including on the nuclear and missile issues as well as the abductions issue.
