Japan-Germany Relations
Courtesy Call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs KUNIMITSU Ayano by H.E. Ms. Petra SIGMUND, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to Japan

On November 19th, commencing at 11:15 a.m., for approximately 35 minutes, State Minister for Foreign Affairs KUNIMITSU Ayano received a courtesy call from H.E. Ms. Petra SIGMUND, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows:
- At the outset, State Minister KUNIMITSU stated that Japan and Germany, which share values and principles and lead Asia and Europe as G7 members, have a significant role to play in maintaining and strengthening a free and open international order based on the rule of law, and expressed her intention to continue to cooperate closely.
- Ambassador Sigmund stated that Japan is a very important partner for Germany, expressing her hope that the two countries continue working together on the international arena. She also referred to the vital people-to-people exchanges, including the Japan-Germany Forum scheduled for December and the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Japanese-German Center Berlin, and expressed her intention to continue to make efforts to further deepen Japan-Germany relations.
- Both sides exchanged views on the importance of bilateral cooperation in areas such as security, including economic security, and on the situation in East Asia such as their policies toward North Korea including on the nuclear and missile issues as well as the abductions issue, and concurred that the two countries will continue to work closely together.
