The 1st Japan-EU Dialogue on Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI)

On June 3, the 1st Japan-EU Dialogue on Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI) was held in Tokyo.
- This dialogue was held following up the 30th Japan-EU Summit convened in July last year, where both sides confirmed to launch the Japan-EU Dialogue on FIMI.
- At this dialogue, the Japanese side was represented by Mr. MOCHIZUKI Chihiro, Director for European Policy Division, European Affairs Bureau and Mr. HOSONO Junichi, Director for Public Diplomacy Strategy Division in the Minister's Secretariat, both from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cabinet Secretariat (Office of Global Communications), Cabinet Intelligence and Research Office (CIRO), National Cybersecurity Office (NCO), Public Security Intelligence Agency (PSIA), and Ministry of Defense (MOD). The EU side was represented by Dr. Filip GRZEGORZEWSKI, Head of Information Integrity and Countering Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference, European External Action Service (EEAS).
- Both sides exchanged views on various challenges in the information space in the Indo-Pacific and Europe, including influence operations such as the spread of disinformation and on possibilities for cooperation between Japan and the EU and in multilateral settings including the G7.
- Both sides confirmed that they will continue to closely work together, leveraging the Japan-EU Dialogue on FIMI.
