Telephone talk between Prime Minister Ishiba and NATO Secretary General Rutte

On January 21, commencing at 4:30 p.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. ISHIBA Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan, held a telephone talk with H.E. Mr. Mark RUTTE, Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The overview of the talk is as follows.
- At the outset, Prime Minister Ishiba congratulated Secretary General Rutte on his assumption of office last October.
- Prime Minister Ishiba also stated that, taking the opportunity of the inauguration of the independent Mission of Japan to NATO last week, he would like to further strengthen the Japan-NATO cooperation, as the security of Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific has increasingly become inseparable and the Japan-NATO relationship is rapidly deepening. In response, Secretary General Rutte welcomed the progress of the Japan-NATO cooperation. Both sides confirmed that they will work together to strengthen the relationship between Japan and NATO, NATO and Indo-Pacific partners (IP4: Japan, Australia, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea).
- Furthermore, both sides confirmed that they will continue closely cooperating on issues which need to be addressed with like-minded countries across the regions, including Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
