Message of condolence from Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio
on the passing of H.E. Mr.Jacques Delors, former President of the European Commission
On December 28, on the passing of H.E. Mr. Jacques Delors, former President of the European Commission on December 27, Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio issued a message of condolence to H.E. Dr. Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission.
In the message, Prime Minister Kishida stated that he is deeply saddened by the news of the passing of H.E. Mr. Delors, and extended his heartfelt condolences on behalf of the Government and the people of Japan.
Prime Minister Kishida also expressed his deep respect for the achievements of Mr. Delors, noting that during decade-long tenure as the President, he demonstrated outstanding leadership in promoting integration of Europe, and laying the foundations for the current close cooperation between Japan and the European Union by holding the first Japan-EUSummit in 1991.
