Telephone meeting between Prime Minister ISHIBA and NATO Secretary General Rutte

On October 7, commencing at 3:30 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. ISHIBA Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan, held a telephone meeting with H.E. Mr. Mark RUTTE, Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The overview of the meeting is as follows:
- At the outset, Prime Minister ISHIBA remarked on the highly fruitful exchange of views that took place during the meeting and working dinner when Secretary General Rutte visited Japan in April. He also stated that the cooperative relationship between Japan and NATO is becoming ever more important as the security environment surrounding Japan remains severe. In response, Secretary General Rutte expressed his deep appreciation for the discussions and hospitality extended by Prime Minister ISHIBA during his visit to Japan in April. He also highlighted that the cooperative relationships between Japan and NATO as well as NATO and its Indo-Pacific partners (IP4: Japan, Australia, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea) are very important and expressed his gratitude for Prime Minister ISHIBA's efforts to strengthen relations with NATO.
- Furthermore, both sides exchanged views on regional situations including Ukraine and the Indo-Pacific and confirmed that they will continue to work together in response to security challenges across the regions.
