(Photo) Japan-Uzbekistan Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue

On August 27, commencing at 10:00 a.m. local time (2:00 p.m. on August 27, Japan time) for approximately 90 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, during his visit to Tashkent, Uzbekistan, held the Japan-Uzbekistan Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue with H.E. Mr. Bakhtiyor SAIDOV, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The overview is as follows:

1. Opening Remarks

  1. Minister Saidov welcomed Miniser IWAYA’s first visit to Uzbekistan and expressed his willingness to strengthen cooperation with Japan in a wide range of fields throuth the first Foreign Minister’s Strategic Dialogue with Japan.
  2. In response, Minister IWAYA said he was delighted that his visit to Uzbekistan had been realized at the invitation of Minister Saidov, and stated his willingness to further strengthen cooperation with Uzbekistan as an important strategic partner in maintaining and strengthening a free and open international order based on the rule of law.

2. Bilateral Relations

Minister IWAYA welcomed the continuing active exchange of high-level officials between two countries. Furthermore, Minister IWAYA stated that the number of the bases of Japanese companies in Uzbekistan is on the rise, and that he would like to further develop bilateral relations through the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) and exchange of human resouces.
Minister Saidov expressed his appreciation to the assistance from Japan as well as his willingness to strengthen cooperation in all areas, including politics, trade, investment, economic, culture and tourism relations.

3. “Central Asia plus Japan” Dialogue

The Ministers concurred on accelerating coordination in order to hold the Summit meeting of “Central Asia + Japan” Dialogue, which was postponed in August last year, as early as possible.

4. Signing Ceremony of the Joint Communique of the Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue and shoucasing documents of Grant projects

  1. Following the Foreign Ministers’Strategic Dialogue, the Ministers, a document outlining the direction of future cooperation in many areas was signed by both foreign ministers.
  2. Furthermore, the documents of the two Grant projects signed on August 27, namely “the Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship” (JDS) and “the Project for Promoting Economic Activities in Surkhandarya Region through Supporting Self-reliance of Vulnerable People including Afghan People”, were showcased.
