Meeting between Mrs. Akie ABE and Mrs. Maka CHICHUA, spouse of the President of Georgia


On October 24, 2014, Mrs. Akie ABE, spouse of the Prime Minister of Japan, had a meeting with Mrs. Maka CHICHUA, spouse of the President of Georgia, who pays a working visit to Japan.
Two first ladies talked in a friendly and bright atmosphere. Mrs. CHICHUA expressed her respects and attachments for Japanese traditional culture such as Kimono and Japanese-style gardens. Also, Mrs. CHICHUA mentioned that both of Japanese traditional dietary cultures, called Washoku, and Georgian traditional Qvevri wine-producing method were registered as UNESCO's intangible cultural heritages in December 2013.
Meanwhile, Mrs. ABE introduced Japanese sprit of treasuring nature, mentioning visit to Kyoto by the president of Georgia and his spouse, and pointed out the necessity for preserving and inheriting traditional cultures.
At the end of the meeting, Mrs. ABE presented makeup brushes produced in Kumano, Hiroshima prefecture, to Mrs. CHICHUA, and Mrs. CHICHUA presented Georgian cloisonne enamel Minankari, one of the national crafts in Georgia, to Mrs. ABE.
During her visit to Japan, Mrs. CHICHUA had a chance to watch Japanese culture such as Jidai-festival in Kyoto and deepened her understanding of it, which led a great opportunity to further deepening relationship between Japan and Georgia.
