On May 25, Mr. SHIMADA Tomoaki, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, attended the reception of the Independence Day of the Republic of Azerbaijan and delivered a speech on behalf of the Government of Japan.

  1. In his remarks, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Shimada congratulated the Republic of Azerbaijan on its Independence Day, on May 28, and stated that Japan and Azerbaijan have steadily built trust based on people-to-people exchanges since establishing diplomatic relations in 1992.
  2. Parliamentary Vice-Minister Shimada also stated that, as ensuring a stable energy supply has become an increasingly important priority, economic cooperation between the two countries –including in the energy sector– has also become even more essential. Based on the exchanges in areas such as sports and culture, he expressed his commitment to working toward the development of both nations.
