On June 17, commencing at 13:05 local time (at 4:05 JST on June 18) for appoloximately 30 minites, Mr. ISHIBA Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan, during his visit to Kananaskis, Canada, to attend the G7 Summit Meeting, held a summit meeting with H.E. Mr. Volodymyr ZELENSKYY, President of Ukraine. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Prime Minister Ishiba expressed his intention to continue supporting Ukraine’s efforts to bring a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, in close cooperatation with the international community and G7 members.
  2. In addition, Prime Minister Ishiba stated that Japan would continue to support Ukraine and then briefed the President on the current status of Japan’s related efforts. Prime Minister Ishiba also conveyed to President Zelenskyy that the Ukraine Mine Action Conferenece, which Japan hosts this year, would be held on October 22.
  3. President Zelenskyy renewed his deep appreciation for Japan’s support extended thus far, and also explained about the current situation in the battlefield and future efforts.
  4. The two leaders concurred that they would continue to work closely together.
