Japan-Ukraine Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

On April 3 at 14:00 local time (at 21:00 JST) for approximately 40 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan during his visit to Brussels, the Kingdom of Belgium, held a foreign ministers’ meeting with H.E. Mr. Andrii SYBIHA, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- Minister Iwaya expressed his respect for Foreign Minister Sybiha’s vigorous diplomatic efforts, and stated that it is important that these diplomatic efforts lead to the realization of a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, and that he would continue to support Ukraine's efforts.
- Minister Iwaya also stated that Japan would strongly urge Russia to take positive reactions, in coordination with Ukraine and the G7, and also continue its support to Ukraine. In response, Foreign Minister Sybiha expressed his gratitude for Japan's support for Ukraine. He then explained the current situation surrounding Ukraine.
- Minister Iwaya stated that he would like to cooperate with Foreign Minister Sybiha towards the success of the Ukraine Mine Action Conference to be hosted by Japan this fall.
- The two ministers confirmed to continuously work closely.
