Japan-Ukraine Relations

On 6 April 2016, Mrs. Akie Abe, spouse of the Prime Minister of Japan, held a meeting with Mrs. Maryna Poroshenko, spouse of the President of Ukraine, who is on a working visit to Japan.

Mrs. Abe welcomed the visit of Mrs. Poroshenko and expressed her gratitude for the heartfelt hospitality during her visit to Ukraine last year in June. Mrs. Poroshenko expressed her delight that her visit coincided with the peak bloom of cherry blossom and her gratitude for the warm hospitality extended by Japanese side. Mrs. Poroshenko also expressed her appreciation for the considerable assistance Japan has extended to Ukraine, including the grass-roots grant aid scheme of the Government of Japan. In response, Mrs. Abe conveyed her willingness to continue working together with the People of Ukraine. 

Mrs. Poroshenko, as explaining her visit to a center for children with special needs ''Umeda Akebono Gakuen'' during her stay in Tokyo, noted that she will draw on various approaches that Japan practices, to improve the support system for the people with disabilities in Ukraine.

The two first ladies exchanged their views on matters of mutual interest, such as reform of educational system, supports for people with disabilities, handing down of traditions and culture, harmony between culture and nature, and exchanges between people.
