Japan-Germany Summit Telephone Talk
On September 22, commencing at around 5:00 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. SUGA Yoshihide, Prime Minister of Japan, held a summit telephone talk with H.E. Dr. Angela Merkel, Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany. The overview of the talk is as follows.
1. At the outset, Prime Minister Suga thanked Chancellor Merkel for her congratulatory message on his appointment as Prime Minister of Japan and for her cooperation with Japan to this date. Prime Minister Suga stated that he would like to make efforts to further strengthen the bilateral relations.
2. Chancellor Merkel responded by expressing her sincere congratulations and stated that she looks forward to working with Prime Minister Suga for further development of the bilateral relations.
3. Both leaders reaffirmed to continue close cooperation toward realizing a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” and addressing various issues facing the international community, including the COVID-19 response.
