Japan-Liechtenstein Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

On June 21st, commencing at 11:50 a.m. (local time; June 21st, 19:50 p.m. JST), for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is currently visiting London, the United Kingdom, to attend the Ukraine Recovery Conference, organized jointly by the UK and Ukraine, held a meeting with H.E. Ms. Dominique HASLER, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Education and Sport of the Principality of Liechtenstein. The overview is as follows.
- At the outset, Minister Hayashi stated that he is pleased to hold the first-ever Foreign Ministers’ meeting in the history of the two countries since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1996. Minister Hayashi also stated that he wishes to further strengthen cooperation with Liechtenstein sharing fundamental values with Japan, as the international order is being challenged and the cooperation among the like-minded countries is more important than ever. In response, Foreign Minister Hasler welcomed the first Foreign Ministers’ meeting and expressed her expectations for further continuing cooperation in bilateral relations and in international fora.
- The two foreign ministers mentioned the importance of the UN General Assembly resolution that would convene a meeting of the UN Security Council if a member of the Security Council casts a veto, shared the view that they will continue to cooperate on the reform of UN, and affirmed that like-minded countries will continue to be united in their response to Russia's aggression against Ukraine. In addition, the two ministers exchanged views on regional affairs such as China and North Korea.
