Meeting between Prime Minister SUGA and President Osmani of Kosovo

On July 24, commencing at 10:10 a.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. SUGA Yoshihide, Prime Minister of Japan, held a meeting with H.E. Dr. Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu, President of the Republic of Kosovo, who was visiting Japan to attend the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympic Games. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- Prime Minister SUGA welcomed President Osmani's first visit to Japan and stated his determination to take all necessary measures to counter infections and to hold the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 in a safe and secure manner. President Osmani appreciated the warm welcome and wished for the success of the Games.
- Prime Minister SUGA stated Japan’s support for a unified Europe based on common fundamental values and for Kosovo's economic and social reforms toward EU accession under the Western Balkans Cooperation Initiative. President Osmani commented that Japan had extended support to Kosovo during the most difficult times, expressing her gratitude for Japan's assistance, including the latest provision of medical equipment.
- In addition, the two leaders shared the view to cooperate in addressing issues related to North Korea, including the abductions issue. Prime Minister SUGA also expressed his expectations for Kosovo's participation in the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai.
