On May 22, commencing at 4:05 p.m. Mr. ISHIBA Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan, held a meeting with H.E. Dr. Tamás Sulyok, President of Hungary, who is visiting Japan to participate in the National Day Event of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, for approximately 45 minutes.

  1. At the outset, Prime Minister Ishiba welcomed President Sulyok’s visit to Japan on the occasion of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. Prime Minister Ishiba also expressed his intention to strengthen coordination with Hungry to maintain and strengthen the free and open international order based on the rule of law.
  2. In response, President Sulyok stated that he would like to continue to strengthen cooperation in various fields to further develop the friendly relations between the two countries, which have continued for 156 years, mentioning that the Consulate of Hungary in Osaka was established.
  3. In addition, Prime Minister Ishiba and President Sulyok exchanged views on the current situation and policies of both countries towards declining birthrate and regional revitalization.
  4. Prime Minister Ishiba and President Sulyok discussed the situation in Ukraine and other matters and concurred to continue dialogue to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
