On June 25, commencing at 9:20 a.m. (4:20 p.m., June 25, Japan time.) for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting The Hague, Netherlands, held a meeting with H.E. Dr. Johann Wadephul, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany on the occasion of the NATO Summit.
The overview is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Minister Iwaya welcomed the realization of the meeting with Minister Wadephul and expressed his intention to deepen discussions based on the discussions at the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.
    Minister Iwaya also stated that the recent Japan-Germany Minister’s telephone meeting was very meaningful and welcomed that Japan-Germany relations have become extremely close. He expressed his appreciation for Germany’s stance of strengthening its engagement in the Indo-Pacific region, and expressed his hope to further advance cooperation, including in the security field.
  2. In response, Minister Wadephul expressed his desire to discuss a wide range of themes between the two countries and further deepen the cooperative relationship between Japan and Germany , and the two Ministers concurred on further promoting bilateral cooperation in a wide range of fields, including cooperation in the security field, including the dispatches of assets of the forces by Germany to the Indo-Pacific, as well as in the field of economic security.
  3. Minister Wadephul also expressed appreciation for Japan’s support for Ukraine, and the two Ministers exchanged views on the situation in the Indo-Pacific, such as their policies toward North Korea including on the abductions issue, as well as on the situation in Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East. The two ministers cofirmed that Japan and Germany will continue to work closely together to address various issues in the international community.
