On January 14, commencing at 18:30 p.m. for approximately 50 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a Meeting with Dr. Peter Tschentscher, Premier of the State of Hamburg, during her visit to Hamburg. The overview is as follows.

  1. Minister Kamikawa expressed her gratitude for the warm sympathy of the Hamburg State Government for the damage caused by the recent Noto Peninsula earthquake, and stated that she was pleased to visit Hamburg, a traditional contact point for Japan as a maritime nation. In response, Dr Tschentscher, the Premier of the State of Hamburg, welcomed her visit to Hamburg and reiterated his sympathy for the victims of the Noto Peninsula earthquake.
  2. Minister Kamikawa noted that Hamburg is an important center for the renewable energy and life science sectors and expressed her appreciation for the support of the state government in hosting Japanese companies and asked for continued support for the local Japanese community. The two sides also exchanged views on cooperation between Hamburg and Japanese municipalities, including Osaka, which has a sister city relationship with Hamburg, and cooperation in the fields of clean energy and life sciences, which Hamburg has developed with city of Kobe and Fukushima prefecture.
  3. The two sides exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine, the Middle East including the Red Sea, as well as maritime security and economic security. The two sides confirmed that they will further cooperate to strengthen relationship between Japan and Hamburg.
