H.E. Mr. Olaf SCHOLZ, Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, will pay an official visit to Japan from 28 April to 29 April 2022.

  1. On this occasion, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, will hold a meeting and a dinner with Chancellor Scholz.
  2. The Federal Republic of Germany, which holds the G7 Presidency this year, is an important partner that shares fundamental values with Japan. The Government of Japan sincerely welcomes the visit of the Chancellor and hopes the visit will contribute to further strengthen the relations between Japan and the Federal Republic of Germany.

  • (1) This will be H.E. Mr. Olaf Scholz’s first visit to Japan as the Chancellor of Germany. (He visited Japan as First Mayor of Hamburg in 2011 and as Federal Minister of Finance in 2019.)
  • (2) Japan-Germany summit telephone talks between Prime Minister Kishida and Chancellor Scholz took place on 14 December 2021 and 22 February 2022.
