The 5th Intergovernmental Consultation on Cooperation in the field of Science and Technology took place on June 8th in Prague, the Czech Republic.

  1. The Intergovernmental Consultation was co-chaired by H.E. Ms. KAJI Misako, Ambassador for Science and Technology Cooperation, and Mr. Jaroslav Miller, Deputy Minister of Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. Attendees were representatives from both countries' relevant ministries, agencies and other organaizations.
  2. During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on the recent developments in science, technology and innovation policies of respective countries. They also discussed the situation of bilateral cooperation and future directions in the areas of common interests (Nano/Advanced Materials, Quantum Technology and Nuclear Technology). The attendees visited laser facility, ELI Beamlines and a nuclear energy research facility, Research Centre Řež on 9th June.
  3. Both sides confirmed to hold their next consultation meeting in Japan and the specific date of the meeting will be coordinated through diplomatic channels.

  1. Intergovernmental Consultation on Cooperation between Japan and the Czech Republic in the Field of Science and Technology was established based on the Science and Technology Cooperation Arrangement signed in November 1978, which entered into force the same year.
  2. Based on the arrangement, the 4th Japan-Czech Science and Technology Cooperation Conference was most recently held in Tokyo in January 2018.
