Japan-Bulgaria Relations

  1. H.E. Mr. Rumen Radev, President of the Republic of Bulgaria, accompanied by his spouse, Mrs. Desislava Radeva, will pay a visit to Japan from 17 May to 21 May. President Radev and Mrs. Radeva will attend Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan from May 17 May to 18 May, and will subsequently pay an Official Working Visit to Tokyo from 18 May to 21 May.
  2. During his stay in Japan, President Radev will pay a State Call on His Majesty the Emperor of Japan. Mr. ISHIBA Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan, will hold a summit meeting with President Radev and host a working dinner.
  3. President Radev and Mrs. Radeva will also participate in the National Day Event of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan.
  4. Last year (2024), Japan and Bulgaria celebrated three significant anniversaries: the 115th anniversary of the commencement of exchanges between Japan and Bulgaria, the 85th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, and the 65th anniversary of the resumption of diplomatic relations. Through the visit to Japan by President Radev, it is expected that the friendly relations between Japan and the Republic of Bulgaria will be further strengthened.

H.E. Mr. Radev was inaugurated as the 5th President of the Republic of Bulgaria on January 22, 2017, and was re-elected for a second term in 2022. This will be President Radev’s second visit to Japan since October 2019, when he attended the Enthronement Ceremony of His Majesty the Emperor.
