On May 20, commencing at around 1:00 p.m., Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting (for approximately 15 minutes) with H.E. Mr. Mathias Cormann, Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), who is visiting Japan to attend the outreach meetings of the G7 Hiroshima Summit. The overview of the meeting is as follows:

  1. At the outset, Minister Hayashi welcomed Secretary-General Cormann’s visit to Hiroshima and expressed his pleasure of meeting Mr. Cormann again since they met during his visit to Japan in late January this year.
  2. Minister Hayashi also expressed his appreciation to the OECD for its cooperation on various efforts during the Japan’s G7 Presidency, and stated that the OECD played an important role in addressing the challenges facing the international community.
  3. In response, Secretary-General Cormann expressed his intention to continue to work closely with Japan in various areas, in particular digital area, and both sides confirmed that they would further strengthen their cooperation towards 2024, which marks the 60th anniversary of Japan’s accession to the OECD.
