Concept
Presently, renewable energy is rapidly spreading around the world against a background of dramatic price reduction of solar PVs, wind power, storage batteries, etc. Renewable energy and energy efficiency are supposed as two significant contributors to the enforcement of the Paris Agreement to address climate change, and a number of activities which favour renewable energy such as green finance are ongoing.
Amid the global trend in the direction of renewable energy, Dr. Adnan Z. Amin, Director-General of International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), advocates “The Age of Renewable Energy Diplomacy” and says “foreign ministries around the world are playing an increasing role in shaping strategic thinking on energy issues and steering international energy cooperation”. In this seminar, Director-General Amin and government officials, experts and corporate individuals in Japan discuss how the current global momentum of renewables and active “Renewable Energy Diplomacy” would affect the future of energy and how Japan should think and act facing such a substantial change.
