On February 19, Ms. TAKAICHI Sanae, Prime Minister of Japan, delivered a video message at the Leaders' Session of the AI Impact Summit hosted by the Republic of India in Delhi.

  1. Prime Minister TAKAICHI stated that it is essential to establish a “safe, secure, and trustworthy AI” ecosystem to promote AI innovation and leverage it as a driving force for economic and social development, the key to which is "trustworthiness".
  2. Prime Minister TAKAICHI also stated that in order to create "trustworthy AI," Japan will expand the "Friends Group," which supports the "Hiroshima AI Process" launched by Japan, to various countries, including those in the Global South. She also welcomed an Indian AI company joining the circle of partners of the "Hiroshima AI Process," and expressed her hope for a fruitful discussion at the ministerial-level meeting of the "Friends Group" to be held at Tokyo next month, building on the outcomes of the AI Impact Summit.
  3. Furthermore, Prime Minister TAKAICHI stated that Japan is working together with the Global South, including India, ASEAN countries, Africa, and Central Asia, to co-create AI ecosystems tailored to the realities of each country and region, emphasizing the importance of co-creating such ecosystems through international cooperation based on trust.
  4. Finally, Prime Minister TAKAICHI stated that Japan will vigorously promote public and private investment to create “trustworthy AI” reflecting Japan’s value of trustworthiness and expressed her intention to host the AI Summit in Japan at the earliest opportunity.

  • The AI Summit is an international conference on AI attended by public and private sector leaders, held annually since the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland hosted the AI Safety Summit in 2023.
  • From February 19 to February 20, India hosted the 4th summit, the "AI Impact Summit," under the presidency of H.E. Mr. Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of the Republic of India. Representatives from national governments and international organizations including H.E. Mr. Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic, H.E. Mr. Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, H.E. Mr. Guy Parmelin, President of the Swiss Confederation and H.E. Mr. Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, and representatives from major AI related companies attended, discussing how to link the transformative impact of AI to the benefit of all humanity, inclusive growth, and planetary protection, with "People," "Planet," and "Progress" as the three pillars. From Japan, Prime Minister TAKAICHI delivered a video message, and Mr. UNO Yoshimasa, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister, attended in person.
  • A Leaders' Declaration is to be issued as an outcome document of the summit.
