On June 16, commencing at 1:40 p.m. (local time. 4:40 a.m. on June 17, Japan time.) for approximately 40 minutes, Mr. ISHIBA Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan, attended the G7 Kananaskis Summit Session 2 “Economic Growth, Economic Security and Resilience”. The overview of the session is as follows.

  1. Prime Minister Ishiba stated that strengthening and diversifying supply chain resilience for critical minerals is an urgent issue and stressed the need for close coordination with the G7 and its partner countries to address this issue.
  2. He also pointed out that resource-rich countries play a significant role in this process, and emphasized the importance of collaboration in launching new mineral resource projects for diversification of supply chains as well as cooperation for initiatives such as the “Resilient Inclusive Supply Chain Enhancement (RISE)” Partnerships to promote local value addition in developing countries.
