  1. From February 1 to 3, 2025, Dr. Kotani Motoko, Science and Technology Co-Advisor to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, visited San Francisco and participated in the Japanese Researcher Gatherings organized by the JSPS San Francisco Office, exchanged views with the local Japanese researchers working as Principal Investigators (PIs), and visited the local national laboratory and the California State Government.
  2. Many young Japanese researchers participated in the Japanese Researcher Gatherings, which was organized in cooperation with the Consulate-General of Japan in San Francisco and the Science and Technology Fellow. At the Japanese Researcher Gatherings, Dr. Kotani delivered a lecture entitled "Japan's Science and Technology Policy and Diplomacy, and Toward Building an International Research Environment" and participated in the panel discussion, exchanged views on further strengthening Japan's science and technology capabilities.
  3. Dr. Kotani also participated in a meeting with local PIs organized by the Consulate-General of Japan in San Francisco to exchange views on the possibility of collaborating with local PIs to promote international joint research.
  4. Dr. Kotani visited Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and California Department of Public Health.
