Presentation by Prof. Matsumoto, Science and Technology Advisor to the Minister for Foreign Affairs on the occasion of a meeting of African Diplomatic Corps

On June 20, Prof. MATSUMOTO Yoichiro, Science and Technology Advisor to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, delivered a presentation on “Japan-Africa Cooperation in Science, Technology and Innovation” in front of ambassadors and diplomats of African countries on the occasion of a monthly meeting of African Diplomatic Corps in Japan, which was held at JICA Global Plaza Tokyo.

In his presentation, touching upon a long history of cooperation between Japan and Africa, he mentioned that the both sides should continue to highly value the people-to-people exchanges including researchers and experts. Furthermore, he stated that it is necessary to strengthen cooperation in the field of science, technology and innovation, and to address both global issues and ones in Africa in cooperation with African countries. After his presentation, many ambassadors posed questions and expressed their expectation on Japanese programs, and both engaged in a lively discussion.
