Regarding the statement issued by a spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry on January 8, 2006, which states that "following the incident, in accordance with relevant laws, the Chinese security authorities conducted interviews with the concerned personnel of the Consulate General of Japan in Shanghai and established the facts" and that "the interviews were documented and there are signatures of the Japanese personnel on the documents."

January 10, 2006

Despite the contents of the interviews conducted by the Chinese security authorities, we cannot accept the Chinese assertion that "heavy pressure of work" was the cause of the death or that there was no one related to the Chinese authorities involved in the incident. We continue to request the Chinese Government to investigate the incident in good faith.
