  1. On March 4 and 5, an international conference on the humanitarian impact of nuclear weapons will be held in Oslo, Norway.
  2. A four-person delegation consisting of Dr. Masao Tomonaga, Director of the Japanese Red Cross Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Hospital; Dr. Terumi Tanaka, Secretary General of the Japan Confederation of A- and H-Bomb Sufferers Organizations; and two Ministry of Foreign Affairs officers (including Arms Control and Disarmament Division Director) will represent Japan at the conference.
  3. The conference will be hosted by the government of Norway. Based on scientific knowledge, experts from participating countries will discuss the various short and long-term impacts of the use of nuclear weapons. As the only country to have ever suffered atomic bombings during wartime, Japan has until now endeavored to bring to the world’s attention the realities of the devastation caused by nuclear weapons use. Drawing on its accumulated knowledge and experience, Japan will actively contribute to the discussion at the Oslo conference.
