Visit to Japan by World Trade Organization (WTO) Director-General Pascal Lamy

  1. From Thursday, March 15 to Saturday, March 17, H.E. Mr. Pascal Lamy, Director-General of the World Trade Organization, will visit Japan as a distinguished guest of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

  2. During his visit to Japan, Director-General Lamy is scheduled to have meetings with Minister for Foreign Affairs Koichiro Gemba, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Michihiko Kano, and Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Yukio Edano, and exchange opinions with senior officials of the Government of Japan and related organizations on various issues tackled by the WTO such as the Doha Round negotiations and resisting protectionism.

  3. Director-General Lamy assumed the post of Director-General of the World Trade Organization in September 2005, and has been playing a major role in strengthening the WTO system.
